This stone is used worldwide for production of billiard tables for over a hundred of years. The slate, in contrast with marble or granite, is beautifully processed. The slate can be easily sanded and polished to a completely smooth surface, which is necessary for billiard tables. The slate has a layered structure, which damps much better vibration from the shots. As a result of grinding the surface of a slate is rough, which contributes to a more secure retention of the cloth. Ardeziya is easier for processing than granite and marble, which allows obtain a perfect surface for proper ball rolled sheet and is easy to "restore" damaged slates during their operation. Drop of a ball weighing 290g from the height of 1.5m does not leave the slate cracks and dents..

 Typically, the slate consists of three or five pieces (depending on the size of the playfields) that are joined to with threaded couplers during the assembly process. Slates are joined to each other with the accuracy up to 0.125mm. The seam between the slates usually puttied, and then the surface is leveled, so that the joints between the slates must be completely invisible.

 The thickness of the slates in different table models can differ from 19 to 45mm. Professional tables are equipped with thick slates of 30-45mm, the amateur tables are installed with the slates of the 19-30mm thickness. While ordering a table slates thickness can be especially stipulated. Keep in mind that a heavy slate with the thickness of 45mm will give you the best roll of the balls, the balls jump on it less - it is perfect.

The fact that the marble and granite is the perfect base for the playfield - a common misconception. For several reasons at present moment the slabs based on marble are basically not produced. It is quite difficult to obtain a homogeneous marble slab of sufficient size and thickness. The surface of the marble is more sensitive to damage and harder to polish than the surface of Ardeziya. The cost of the marble slabs is disproportionately higher than the cost of the slate slab. Unlike marble, granite, there are no shells in the slate and the slate surface is more uniform. Granite and marble have a crystalline structure, which is more fragile and unreliable .

The most "budget" option is a slate of chipboard (laminated chipboard). The lowest price and the minimum weight are among its advantages. However, fans of savings, bought a table on the base of a chipboard, have to become accustomed to increased noise background (hear rolling balls). Chipboards quickly wear out even the slightest deformed at jump balls (for chipboard billiard balls often jump at the expense of its lower density compared to the slate), and unstable to moisture and temperature changes.

Polymer concrete, MDF and particleboard can only be used to reduce significantly cost of the table and simultaneously to eliminate its game properties
